A Continuing Fine Tradition

In 1993 the printing room was rebuilt; since 1996, largely thanks to the generosity of friends and benefactors, much worn equipment has been replaced.

Pre-press is handled by a G4 PowerMac equipped with industry-standard DTP and imaging

software. Printing is done on a Heidelberg GTO with Varn dampening; cutting on a Polar 72CE guillotine; creasing on converted letterpress machines. Folding and finishing is still mainly done by hand, although there are facilities for wire saddle-stitching and holt-melt perfect binding.

As in the past, the Press is entirely staffed by nuns. While the technology constantly changes, our concern for quality does not. Typographical excellence and immaculate presswork are still characteristic of Stanbrook printing, whether the work in hand be a letterhead or a limited edition. Printing on handmade papers has been revived, and there is active collaboration with some of Britain's best calligraphers and illuminators. From distinctive wedding stationery to simultaneous publication in both printed and electronic form, Stanbrook Abbey Press is a traditional enterprise looking to the future.

The Stanbrook Abbey Bookshop offers an online ordering service for books, CDs and cassettes. It is the main retail outlet for Stanbrook Abbey Press productions and recordings made by the community.
